1931-2021
Gustavo Gomez left to be with the Lord on May 13, 2021 in El Paso, Tx. surrounded by his wife, Corina Gomez, his daughter, Gloria Gomez, his son, David Gomez, with his wife, Olga and their three daughters, Briana Gomez, Lauren Gomez, and Ivanna Gomez, along with Gus’s youngest daughter, Norma Gomez-Valenzuela and husband Danny Valenzuela.
Gus was a life-long resident of Ysleta, Tx. and attended Ysleta High School “Once An Indian, Always An Indian.”
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949, where he served on the USS Oriskany during the Korean War. During his enlistment, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Conflict Medal, United Nations Medal, China Service Medal, and the South Korean Presidential Medal. After the Navy, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and served for 35 years. He achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8).
Gus worked at P&N Big 8 Grocery store in Ysleta, Tx. as the meat market manager for 40 years. Throughout these years, he built many friendships in the community.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ysleta, Tx. for over 60 years, where he was the Commander and District Commander several times throughout these years. During this time, he continued with serving the Ysleta community.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend who always was willing to help and put others first. He loved his wife, family and country and would do anything for us. He will be missed.
