"George A. Patterson, a beloved father, husband, veteran, and pillar of faith, departed from this world on June 27th, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Born on December 2, 1943, George dedicated over 60 years of his life to serving his country and community. He retired honorably as a Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army, having served two tours in Vietnam where he received numerous commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Service Bar (x5), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a “Palm” device. His military career was marked by bravery and dedication, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers.
After his military service, George continued his professional journey with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, from which he later retired. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life into his community, where he found a new calling through his church. As an ordained minister and elder, George taught adult and youth classes, providing guidance, wisdom, and compassion to all who sought his counsel. His faith was not just a belief but a way of life, embodied in every aspect of his being. He also dedicated his time to practical acts of service, such as cutting grass, cleaning the church, and volunteering at other churches.
George's love for his family and community was evident in everything he did. His genuine warmth and welcoming nature made everyone feel like a lifelong friend, while his radiant smile had the power to brighten even the darkest of days. When he was not working, he was always surrounded by family, cherishing every moment spent with them. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the stories, memories, and love shared by those who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Smith and Marvin Patterson, his first wife, Mattie Patterson, and three sons: Hughie, Ramon, and Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Maria Patterson, eight children: Kimberly, Michelle, Carol, Glynnette, Fredrick, Oscar, Mary, and Rocio; twenty-one grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Frances; two nieces; and two nephews.
George A. Patterson's life was a testament to the power of service, faith, and love. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him."
Visitation for George will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with Funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Funeraria del Angel Restlawn Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer, El Paso, Texas 79904. Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79906.
