Fernando B. Gaytan

Fernando was born April 13, 1935, to Amelia and Feliciano O. Gaytan who preceded him in death.

Fernando was born in El Paso and graduated from Jefferson High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the US Army where he served for a total of 3 years. After the military, he worked at Wholesome Dairies and Asarco for an indefinite period of time before starting his career with the US Postal Service, retiring after 50 years of service.

Fernando married Estela Ortega on August 31,1955 and they were the parents of 3 children, Mary Elizabeth Ramirez (Conrad), Fernando Jr. and Mary Bernadette Shindo (Bernie).

He was preceded in death by his wife Estela, daughter Liz, and granddaughter Stephanie.

He is survived by his daughter Bernie (Joe) son Fernando, Jr. and his grandsons Mathew Bear and Kenny Shindo (Samantha), Cesar Romero and his 5 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Lencho (Clara) and sisters Luz Carrizal, Mary Cavin, Tencha Ceballos (Cuco), Elva Smallwood (Michael Groemling) and Norma Gonzalez (Angel).

Fernando was preceded in death by his sister Lupe Gaucin and brother Rodolfo Gaytan (Esther). Other family members who preceded him in death include Vergil Cavin, Ernesto Carrizal, Thomas J. Smallwood.

A visitation for Fernando will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79903, with Rosary at 6:00 PM. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of The Light Catholic Church, Dolan Chapel, 4700 Delta Dr, El Paso, Texas 79905. Committal service will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, Fort Bliss, Texas 79906.
