Emma C. Resendez

Emma Catherine Resendez, affectionately known as “Cathy” or “GiGi” passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020. She was a loving wife, mother of 4 sons and 1 daughter, grandmother of 15, and great grandmother of 12.

Cathy was born in Uvalde, Tx. She attended Knippa High School where she was a cheerleader and athlete. Cathy attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Tx. where she earned a degree in education before moving to El Paso, Tx. where she would spend the rest of her life.

Cathy was a dedicated, well-known educator within the Ysleta and Socorro School Districts. She devoted more than 33 years as an elementary school teacher. Cathy’s passion for education and love for her students and colleagues brought her great joy as she taught PE, computer technology, and English.

A devoted mother, she arose early to cook the family breakfast before school, went to work all day as a teacher, then returned home to cook a wonderful dinner for the family. Her ability to whip up great southern, Tex-Mex, and other delicious meals was second to none. Cathy truly loved to have her family over on Sundays for her famous red enchiladas.

In retirement, Cathy enjoyed traveling across the country in an RV, and around the world with her late husband, Rodolfo (“Rudy”) A. Resendez, Sr. She also enjoyed visiting her children often regardless of where they were in the world, and she especially enjoyed visiting with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents Isaac H. Cavender and Bethlida Cavender; her first husband, Terry Simms; her husband, Rodolfo (“Rudy”) A. Resendez, Sr.; her brother, Richard Cavender; and her sisters, Betty Eldredge and Pat McCarty. She is survived by her sons, Stan Simms (Annette), Rodolfo (“Rudy) A. Resendez, Jr. (Janet), Eddie Simms, Robert Resendez (Katie), and daughter Becky Hempe (Richard). Also, brother Jack Cavender (Marylin) along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cathy/GiGi will never be forgotten and leaves behind such beautiful memories.

We would like to thank the nursing/CNA staff at Global Hospice from the wonderful care they provided to our beloved Cathy. Special thanks to Dr. Chukwu and Dr. Pande for all the care they provided.
