Eduardo Rojas Sr., loving father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 22nd, he was 85. Eduardo, also lovingly known as ‘Lalo’, was born on July 23,1933 to Genaro and Guadalupe Rojas. He was the (5) of (8) children where they resided in Segundo Barrio. Eduardo decided to join the United States Navy to serve his country and pursue a better life for himself and his family. During his service in the Navy, he participated in, Operation Passage to Freedom while aboard the USS Ajax. In this operation, he aided more than 300,000 Vietnamese refugees fleeing communist North Vietnam. It was the largest humanitarian effort at the time. Upon his arrival back to El Paso, he married the love of his life, Enriqueta (Macias) Rojas. They celebrated (63) years this past July. They would soon relocate to San Diego and eventually return to El Paso. In the years to come their family would grow with the birth of their daughter, Maria (Rojas) Reyes and then their son, Eduardo Rojas Jr. Eduardo Rojas then worked for the United States Postal Service for over three decades until his retirement in 1992. Not one to just lounge around for the rest of his free time, he was active with daily walks, adventures in the summer with his grandchildren, and volunteered at Crockett Elementary school. He had an infinite love for the ocean and would take his grandchildren every summer with a side trip to Disneyland. He also loved the sights and sounds of Las Vegas, every type of sweet candy or drink, and telling his stories of his service in the Navy. His humor, humbleness, and positive attitude continues to show with his family and friends. Eduardo is preceded in death by his parents, Genaro and Guadalupe and his son, Eduardo Rojas Jr. He is survived by his wife, Enriqueta (Macias) Rojas, his daughter, Maria (Rojas) Reyes, Angel Reyes four grandchildren, Angel Reyes Jr., ( Stephanie Reyes) Eduardo Rojas III (Amanda Rojas), Michael Reyes, Erica Reyes, and three great grandchildren, Dominick Rojas, Matthew Rojas, and Elijah Reyes. Eduardo was also a loving father figure to many individuals who came into his life, his kindness and uplifting advice was given to many without reciprocation. They too were very much loved by him.
Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana, Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 5pm to 9pm with the Vigil to begin at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday September 27, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 9:15am with the interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 10:30am.
