To so many, he was so much. A light in every room, a helper to anyone in need, and a friend even to strangers. Whether it was a lending hand, a quick joke to lift spirits, or quiet words of wisdom, he had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued.
He believed in doing what was right—always. He’d tell it like it was, return extra change without hesitation, and leave a few pennies behind in the “Take a penny, leave a penny” tray—just in case someone else needed them.
He wore many titles with pride and honor: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and soldier. He served his country with courage and integrity, standing firm for justice, the American Dream, and the Constitutional rights he held dear. Though he was a man of great strength, he was first and foremost a lover, not a fighter.
His greatest love was his one and only soulmate, Susanna. From the moment he saw her, he was smitten—proposing just three days later with a promise to return after the war. During a year of separation in the time of a memorable war, he wrote to her every single day. Those sacred letters, lovingly preserved in a blue leather bag, remain a treasured testament to a love that endured and inspired.
That love never wavered. It lives on today through Susanna, who continues to honor and share his memory with grace, gratitude, and pride.
Edgar is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Susanna; his cherished daughter Susan; his precious granddaughter and partner-in-crime, Chyna; his doppelganger grandson, Lawrence IV; his creative son, Tom; grandsons Zach and Thomas; and his dear sisters, Linda Jane and Louise; and Brittney and her son, Elijah.
He is now reunited with loved ones who passed before him: his father, Edgar H. Beck Sr., and his wife Jane; his mother, Eleanor Lamontagne, and her husband Charlie; and his four younger siblings: Ruth, Joe, John, and Gilbert.
Edgar “Butch” Beck Jr. is deeply missed and lovingly remembered each and every day. His legacy of kindness, strength, laughter, and love lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. As he is welcomed by our Heavenly Father into eternal peace, we give thanks for the time we had with him and the memories we hold close.
Amen.
A graveside service for Edgar will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, Texas 79906.
