Dolores Helen Hicks, 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 18, 2014. Dolores was born to Anton Peter and Margaret Cecilia (Becker) Miller on May 4, 1923 at home in Dane, Wisconsin and began a life of adventure, love and laughter. She auditioned at a young age to be a trapeze artist in the circus, danced with soldiers at the local USO doing her part for the war effort during WWII, and at the tender age of 19 headed off to the wild-west and El Paso with five best friends in search of more adventures and warm weather. Dolores was a secretary at White Sands Missile Range, when she met and married the love of her life, Jimmy Hicks in 1956. During the course of raising five children, Dolores opened and operated Atlas Nursery School in NE El Paso, cheered for her kids in every possible sport, supported and campaigned for her husband in his election wins for City and County Tax-Assessor Collector. Dolores was a faithful member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church serving on the Altar Guild and in Daughters of the King. She loved traveling with her husband and being involved in the political process and community organizations that promoted their beloved El Paso, especially the Northeast. They were avid members of Lion's Club, Discover Club, Shriners, NE Democrats and NE Optimists. She was a fierce fan of the El Paso Diablos and Miners football and basketball teams. Of all her pastimes and activities the one she cherished the most was relentlessly loving her family through the joy of food and family gatherings. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James S. Hicks, her grandson, Matthew Hicks and sister Rosemary Niessen. She is survived by sisters Thomasine Biwersi, Lucille DiCello and Genevieve Schmidt.
