Albert Charles Hynes, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 9, 2024. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and served in the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Chicago. He enjoyed the southwest so much he decided to return to El Paso to spend the rest of his life, where he met the love of his life Maria Elena de la Torre on a train trip to
Aguascalientes, Mexico.
He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later went on to obtain his Masters in Computer Information Systems from the University of Michigan. His professional career was spent at White Sands Missile Range and he retired in 1983.
He enjoyed exploring the outdoors especially fishing. He belonged to the Fly Fishing Club in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a member of the El Paso Border Chorders where he delighted in singing. He loved watching sports; his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and any sport played by Purdue and the University of Michigan. He and Maria Elena were supportive season ticketholders to UTEP Miner basketball games and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra; he had an appreciation for classical music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Anna Cerney Hynes, and his brother, Edward Hynes (Carol). He is survived by his wife Maria Elena (Mary) De la Torre Hynes, his daughters Pamela Ann Hynes and Jennifer Lynn Meinberg, and his son-in-law Todd Meinberg. He had three grandsons: Patrick Meinberg, Michael Meinberg, and Everett Erickson. He will be missed by his family in El Paso, Arizona, New Mexico and Illinois.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 Resler Drive from 5 to 8 pm. with Prayer Service at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere.
