Robert Theron Ellzey Jr.

Robert Theron Ellzey, Jr., 87, died peacefully at home on October 28, 2020. Bob was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on March 1, 1933 to Pearl Harper and Robert Theron Ellzey, Sr. Bob spent his childhood in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High School. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology from the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After serving his country as an ensign in the Mediterranean Sea for the US Navy, Bob began his career as a geologist in Denver and Houston before returning home. Owner of Title Guaranty in El Dorado and Security Abstract Company in Magnolia for many years, Bob served his community on boards at South Arkansas Symphony, Camp Fire Girls, American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Bozeman Park School. He was a loyal Rotarian and Master Gardener.

Bob faithfully served God, his family and others. He was a devoted member and steward of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church serving as a proficient lay reader and dedicated vestry member. His love for music was expressed by singing in the choir and volunteering as choir director for decades.

Bob was a friend to all and best known for sharing stories from his past to anyone who would listen. He was the ultimate gentleman, always standing when a woman walked into the room or offering to assist in any capacity. Even on his many trips to CARTI in Little Rock, he continued to offer help to anyone in need.

He enjoyed spending time with his family at home, at the lake, or on the annual Ellzey family summer adventures around the country. He was most content being with his wife Virginia Ray. When not working on puzzles or projects, Bob could be found in the yard weeding.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Ray; daughter, Mary Davis (Milford) of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Elizabeth Clark (Tom) of Little Rock and son, Richard Ellzey (Graeme) of Little Rock. He was affectionately known as “Boppa” to his grandchildren; Annie and Emme Ellzey, Hannah and Calloway Clark, Preston and Harper Davis.

Family and friends will celebrate his life with a burial service at St. Mary’s.
