Patsy Sue Anthony Giles

Born August 10, 1933 to parents Beryl and Oma Lee Anthony, Pat lived most of her life in El Dorado, serving her community in various civic and Methodist church organizations.

Pat is survived by her husband, Windsor R. Giles of El Dorado, affectionately known to all as “Scotty”, a daughter, Elizabeth Giles Johnson and husband Michael of Little Rock, a son, Michael W. Giles and wife Shannon of West Jordan, Utah, a sister, Carolyn Murphy of El Dorado, a brother, Beryl Anthony, Jr. and wife Sheila of Palm City, Florida, five grandchildren, Lori Giles Aleshin, Angela Giles Hilton, Mary Robin Giles Wilens, Windsor “Win” Johnson and Katherine “Kate” Johnson, two great-grandchildren, Mariana Aleshin and Michael Kade Earnest, and a mess of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and loyal friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her grandparents Effie and Frank Anthony and Lessie and John Dunn Roark. Pat also sadly lost her daughter Janet Giles; great-granddaughter Mollie Earnest; and brother, John Lee Anthony of El Dorado.

Pat graduated from El Dorado High School and attended Stephens College in Columbia,

Missouri. She assisted her husband as a bookkeeper and merchandise buyer at Giles Hospital Pharmacy for many years. The pharmacy actually delivered prescriptions to their customers, and it was a legendary soda fountain landmark for years.

Pat was an adventurer, taking every opportunity to travel to both exotic and sleepy, back-road destinations with family and friends. Her favorite locale was atop Margarita Hill at the family’s Anthony Arrowhead Ranch enjoying a beautiful, South Texas sunset while being serenaded by Waylon and Willie. She was also a passionate reader and a great southern cook, adding an unscripted pinch or dash to perfect her lip-smacking dishes.

Pat was well known and loved not only for her easy laugh, but also for her fiery opinions, which were seldom held back. Frankly, being on the wrong side of Pat was not advisable. She was equally known for her generosity and steadfast loyalty to family and friends. Pat held court at her kitchen table where gatherings were frequent and fun. Over the years, she and Scotty hosted many family get-togethers and important occasions, providing fabulous food, boisterous laughter, and a large cozy home to welcome nieces, nephews, grandchildren, dear friends, and the friends of friends.

Pat’s pride and love were grounded in her extensive family and its heritage in the timber and forest products industry. She was First Cousin of the 28 grandchildren descended from Frank and Effie Anthony, and she took her position seriously. It was no surprise to family that Pat ordered southern yellow pine as her funeral flower.

The family gratefully acknowledges the prayers, personal help and professional caregivers during her recent illness.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Young’s.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 8th at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Keith Dodson officiating, after a family burial in El Dorado’s Arlington Cemetery.
