Lillian Estell "Stella" Smith

Born on June 21, 1923 in Corley, TX; Stella was the daughter of James Dewey Downs and Madie Newsom Downs. She graduated from Redwater, TX High School in 1940 and was member of First Baptist Church of Redwater. She had been a resident and homemaker of the Norphlet and Smackover area for over 70 years.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years George Hampton Smith and a brother Gerald Downs.

Survivors are a son George Smith and his wife Beverly of Smackover, AR, a daughter Yolanda Marks and her husband Donnie of Norphlet, AR, brothers James Downs, Jr. of Ashdown, AR, Horace Downs of Shreveport, LA, Bob Downs of Pueblo, CO, Wayne Downs of Redwater, TX, and a sister Ann Dodd of Minot, ND. Also surviving are grandchildren Crystal Smith of Broken Arrow, OK and Samantha (Mark) Miller of Smackover, one great-granddaughter, Ana Miller and one great grandson, Beau Miller both of Smackover.

She is also survived by two step-granddaughters, Staci Viator of Mauriceville, TX and Kim Ward of Smackover and two step-grandsons, Steve Marks of Dayton, TX and Darrell Marks of Mauriceville, TX along with 7 step-great granddaughters and 3 step-great grandsons and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in Smackover Cemetery with Rev. David Preston officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors

The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P. M. at Young Funeral Directors.
