Joyce Post

Joyce was born to Thomas and Ruby Dennis on November 14, 1936, in Waldo, AR, where she would be raised and attend school, graduating from Waldo High School in 1954. Joyce then attended Southern State College in Magnolia where she graduated with an elementary education degree in 1958. She then moved to El Dorado, AR where she began her teaching career at Northwest Elementary School. This is where she would meet the love of her life and marry Benny Post on June 28, 1959. They would move to Smackover where they would buy Shamrock Drug Store and raise their family. Joyce would later teach at Smackover Elementary School and always loved her students. She would enjoy seeing them later in life as they became adults and had families of their own.

Joyce loved her students but her main focus was always on her family. She loved being a wife and a mom as she loved them, supported them, and took care of them with her whole heart. She later enjoyed being a Grandmother and Great-Grandmother as she attended baseball games, basketball games, and dance recitals. Her face would always light up when she talked about her family, even in her last days when things were not so bright.

Joyce loved to bake and would often share her baked goods to those in her church and neighborhood. She had a heart for ministering to others through visiting those that were sick, homebound or in the nursing home. She also loved her church, First Baptist Church in Smackover. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 14 in Waldo and taught different classes at First Baptist until she gave her ladies class up last year at the age of 86. She made an impact on many lives during those 72 years and enjoyed all the people she met along the way. Joyce was also active in several women's groups as well as serving on several church committees.

Joyce also enjoyed many clubs and activities. She was the Past President of the Arkansas Pharmacist Association Women's Auxiliary, member of Delta Kappa Gamma for women educators, and was the lead in planning her high school reunion they had every year. Joyce also enjoyed the Dinner Club they had with friends for almost 50 years and also played in a Bridge Club for several years.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas Dennis. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Benny Post, her children, Benji Post (Tracie) and Kim Bradshaw (Robert Hodges) along with her grandchildren Mary Ashton Ruddell (Blake), Abbigail Waters (Kolten), Matthew Post and Michael Post (Ashley), great-grandchildren, Milo and Everitt Waters, and Maggie and Clayton Ruddell and nephews Johnny Dennis (Jackie) and Ricky Dennis (Nena).

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Smackover Cemetery with a visitation to he held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the service.
