Dorothy is the widow of Charlie Mack “Woody” Wood who passed away on September 25, 2018. They were married 68 years.
Dorothy was born at home on September 22, 1927 in Mt. Holly, AR to the late Effie Lee Smalling White and Collie E. White. She was a graduate of Smackover High School and a resident of Union County until she moved to Luling, LA in 1954 when her husband was transferred with Monsanto Chemical Company. Prior to moving to Louisiana, Dorothy worked in the accounting department for Lion Oil Company.
She and Woody were founding members of the Barton Avenue Church of Christ in Luling, LA. She served in whatever way she could until failing health prevented her from continuing. If you were invited to come for a meal, it was usually going to be a Fish Fry. Many happy times were spent around the Wood family table while enjoying a catfish dinner complete with enough side dishes for an army. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, and was especially known for the Pineapple cakes she baked for her family. She loved reading her Bible. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter-n-law, grandmother and great grandmother who will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margie White Evans and Joan White; three brothers, Morris White, Doris White and Bill White and niece Peggy White and nephew Charles (Little Charlie) White. Dorothy was a beloved sister to each of her siblings and was like a second mother to the two youngest.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Randy Gilbert of Madison, N.C.; her son, Glenn Ray Wood (Woody) of Luling, LA; three grandsons Josh Gilbert and his wife Trish of High Point, N.C.; Jason Gilbert and his wife Mary of Wilmington, N.C.; Richard Wood (Woody) and his wife Amy of Covington, LA; one granddaughter, Angela Oxford and husband Chris of Hammond, LA; four great grandsons, Nicholas Gilbert; Ben Gilbert; Lane Wood (Woody); and Jarrott Lande; four great grand daughters, Mary Ellen Gilbert; Zoe Gilbert; Madison Wood; and Haidyn Wood; one great-great grandson, Rowan Oxford, one sister, Joyce Amis, three brothers, Bonny White, Frank White, and Joe White all of El Dorado along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be on Friday May 21st from 4:30 - 6 PM at Young’s Funeral Home. A Graveside service is planned for Saturday, May 22nd 10:00 AM at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be at Young’s Chapel.
