On August 5th, 1975, he married Carmen Covarrubias. Together, they had 3 children. Santiago and Carmen also resided in Tonala, Jalisco, MX. They enjoyed traveling together, as well as spending time with family and friends. Santiago's special interests and hobbies included raising a family. He worked at Nassco for 25 years where he proudly retired from. He was a man of many trades. He enjoyed cooking, especially mastering his own style of carnitas and chicharrones. He just enjoyed food. He was an amazing singer that we craved to listen too. His music always brought smiles to everyone. Santiago loved the simplest things in life. He loved to serenade our mother.
Proud and devoted husband, dedicated grandfather, friend to all is how he will be remembered by many. As we reflect on his life he was always smiling and enjoying his occasional tequila with squirt while he enjoyed life and lived it as much as possible.
There is not enough words in any language that will come close to writing an obituary for Santiago Covarrubias, our father who we share to the world for whom ever reads this in his remembrance.
Thank you dad, apa, papi, daddy, abuelito, Toto and conan, canco in which names are dear to our hearts. God in heaven sent you from above, now we send you back to God and Heaven which just got stronger. We LOVE you DAD.
He is survived by his three children, Santiago (Junior), Eduardo (Walo), and daughter Carmen (Carmelita); 4 grandchildren, Santiago III (Gordo), Isabella (Luca), Nakoa (Vicente); and Azucena (Chiquilikis) 2 brothers, 1 sister and many nieces and nephews.
Santiago was preceded in death by his wife Carmen Covarrubias; brother, Bardomiano Covarrubias Nuṅo; sister Magdalena Covarrubias Nuṅo and sister Inez Covarrubias Cortez.
Funeral/Viewing services will be heldon Monday, December 7th at 3pm at El Cajon-Lakeside-Santee Mortuary and Cremation 684 S Mollison Ave. El Cajon, CA 92020. Mass will be Tuesday, December 8th, 2020 at 2pm at Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala 10818 San Diego Mission Rd. San Diego, CA 92108.
