Robert Houghton Steele, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community member, passed away on June 3, 2024, in San Diego, CA. He was born on June 14, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA, to the loving parents Ernest and Edna Steele.
Robert dedicated his life to service, starting with his commitment to the country through his service in the Navy for 24 years.
On December 18, 1955, Robert married the love of his life, Beverly Arlene Steele, whom he met in Boston while they were both serving in the Navy. Their union was a testament to love, commitment, and mutual respect, lasting for decades and creating a beautiful family together.
He is survived by Beverly Steele his wife of 68 years. Their four sons Steven Steele, Alan Steele, Don Steele, and Marty Steele as well as nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed playing computer games and engaging in political discussions. His hobbies included cruises, casinos, and scout leadership. He was a member of the Protestant community, finding solace and strength in his faith. He was also proud to have been selected to attend the honor flight with Beverly in Washington D.C.
After leaving the military, Robert pursued entrepreneurship, becoming the proud owner of a 7-11 franchise for 20 years. His determination to be his own boss and provide for his family was a reflection of his strong work ethic and commitment to those he loved.
Robert was known for his kind and generous nature, always putting his family first and supporting them in every endeavor. His intelligence and wit were evident in his conversations, making him a joy to be around for all who knew him.
A man of integrity and honor, Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate Robert's life will be held at Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122 on June 18, 2024, at 9:00 AM. May his soul rest in peace, surrounded by the love and memories he leaves behind.
