Katherine Joyce Caproni

Katherine (Kathy) Joyce Caproni, of Scripps Ranch (San Diego), passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at The Prebys Cardiovascular Institute of Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California.

Kathy was born on December 13, 1943 in Salinas, California and grew up in Los Angeles. She attended Catholic Preparatory schools in the Philippines and in California including Our Lady Queen of Angels High School in Los Angeles and St. Catherine’s Preparatory graduating at the age of 15.

While working at Los Angeles Headquarters of The Automobile Club of Southern California, Kathy met Leo Caproni, the love of her life. They were married in Los Angeles on Valentines Day, February 14, 1970 and were married for forty-six (46) years.

After they married, Kathy and Leo relocated to San Diego where they started several businesses: a construction site clean-up firm, facilities maintenance company and a newspaper delivery service. Kathy successfully managed all the financial and accounting functions of their businesses and was a true partner with her husband. In retirement, she devoted every day to the caring for Leo until he passed away in 2016.

As a mother, it was important to her that her children receive a Catholic education and she sacrificially made sure that all three of her children attended the best Catholic elementary schools and college preparatory high schools.

Kathy is remembered for her strength, business savvy, and attention to detail. She enjoyed dancing, spending time in her garden and cooking. Whatever she embarked on, she did with high standards and passion.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Jose “Joe” Romaldez and Ida Maie Romaldez, and her brother, Santiago “Sonny” Casa. She is survived by her Children: Roxanne Petteway, Anthony Poulin, and Rachel Caproni; Grandchildren: Valeri, Jonathan, AJ, Cassi and Leona: Great-grandson: Rhett.

A viewing will take place immediately prior to the funeral service on April 9, 2019 at St. Gregory the Great, 11451 Blue Cypress Drive, San Diego (Scripps Ranch), CA 92131. Visitors are invited to come between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Kathy’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be from 11:00 am - 11:30 am at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122 on April 10, 2019.
