I was shocked and very sad to learn that Michael Silver has passed away. I had tears in my eyes when I was reading the news online. I worked with Michael and Patricia at Parkland Regional Library in Lacombe over 15 years ago. Michael was a good man, a really good man; he was very smart, very talented and kind.  Michael was a self-taught computer expert, he was crazy about computer. Patricia once said to me: Michael married that computer Michael and Patricia gave me and my family tremendous help when I started my librarian job and my new life in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada. Michael had a small pickup truck at that time; he and Patricia helped me move from one place to another in Lacombe. I stayed for a few days in Michael and Patricia's home before I could find a room in Lacombe Hotel. When I moved to my hotel room, Michael helped me. He put my large and very heavy suitcase on top of his head, climbed the stairs to my room on the second floor with his two hands in the air holding the suitcase on top of his head. That image of Michael was carved in my memory. My condolences to Patricia and Family.

I'm very sad to read that Michael has passed away. I worked on the third floor in Facilities at the Edmonton Public Library. For a period of time, Michael worked in an office on the same floor. He was a very nice man with a smile and a quiet sense of humour and I enjoyed running into him at the Library. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

This is indeed a shock. I am so sorry to hear this news today. All I can think of are the days of merriment and joy during our days in the theatre department at South Carolina. You have my deepest sympathies, and I wish you great comfort in this time of mourning.

Sorry to hear of Michael's death. I always enjoyed working with him as a peer in regional library information technology stuff.  He always had a grand sense of humour and positive outlook.  Sympathy to Patricia and family.  He is in my prayers.

I've met Michael during our overlapped time at SLIS; he was always a deeply knowledgeable, caring, patient individual. We are poorer for his absence. My condolences to all friends and family.

Michael was such a bright light for all of us in library school - he was always so kind and ready with a joke and a smile, and was so generous in sharing his knowledge and helping us out with our tech issues. His passing is an unbelievable loss and I know he will be greatly, greatly missed by many.

Michael was an exemplary student whose interest and enthusiasm was a source of inspiration for all students at the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) in the University of Alberta. I was lucky to have had him in four of my courses and to have had the honour of presenting him with the Sarah Rebecca Reed Memorial Scholarship in Library and Information Studies in 2010, which was the highest recognition at SLIS. He was a personable and a truly pleasant individual. My condolences to the family.

As someone who called Michael on a regular basis for IT help, he was the most helpful and cheerful person you could ever meet. I loved talking to him whenever I was at Parkland. He will be missed.

I remember Michael well from his years at Parkland Regional Library. He was always so friendly and helpful.  So sorry to hear this sad news.  My condolences to the family.

I crossed paths with Michael many times during our careers in the Library profession in Alberta.  I respected Michael for his computer knowledge and willingness to volunteer.  He had a kind spirit and will be missed.  My condolences to Patricia and family.

Michael, as others have noted, always had a smile for everyone. He was kind and shared his knowledge to help others - he also had a wry but gentle sense of humour. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing - thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

Michael and I regularly ran into each other in Milner Library. He had a warm way about him that always made me want to stop and chat. I enjoyed hearing about his projects at TAL -- he made the tech side of library work accessible and interesting. His warmth will be missed. His contributions to libraries will be remembered.

Michael, I will miss you, brother. To all the Silver's: Mike was a Mentor to me way back in the Boy Scout days when his Dad was the Scout Master. I am amazed at Mike's resemblance to his father in his photograph. I never knew his name was "Terry" but I think "Mike" sounded better.I hadn't seen Mike since USC days in the late 80's but I kept up with him on Facebook. It saddens me more than I can say. We certainly remember him and recall him adding to  the music at Christmas Eve Mass at St. Stephen's shortly after we moved there in the early 1990's.  May his soul rest in peace. I met Michael several times while he was at SLIS. He was a warm, kind person, and I enjoyed seeing him. I am so sorry for your loss.

I want to send my condolences to Michael's family. I am saddened to hear of his passing. We hired Michael to teach in the Library & Information Technology Program at Macewan for one year, several years back, and I appreciated his hard work and wonderful personality. Michael stepped in and took over a class for our program, and did a superb job, with excellent feedback from students. We in the library community will miss him.

So sorry to hear of Michael's passing. We had such fun at coffee breaks when Michael worked at the UofA. He became one of us 'girls' for the time he was with us. Rest in peace Michael.

It was my pleasure to have known such a kind man. I enjoyed not only working with him at the Parkland Regional Library, but also being in the Lacombe Community Band and Flat Iron Jazz with him. He was always going the extra mile to help anyone who needed it. He will be missed!

I worked with Michael at Parkland Regional Library where he was our computer support expert. Michael worked diligently to bring new technologies to our central Alberta libraries,  constantly upgrading his skills to improve the support we provided.  His dedication to library service was only surpassed by his love and dedication to his family.  My heartfelt condolences to out to his family and co-workers.

Michael was a great friend to me when we studied together at library school. He will remain fondly in my memory for his sage advice and his heartwarming sense of humour. My sincerest condolences to the family for their loss!

You were always so sunny, so helpful, so great during those glorious Silver Cadet days at Richland Northeast High School. You continued to touch many lives as the years passed, and I was delighted to reconnect with you online. Mike, we're proud to be your friends. Godspeed.

How sad to hear that Michael is no longer with us; he was far too young to leave and had so much more to contribute.

I first met Michael more than 20 years ago when we were both involved in the Lacombe Environmental Trust Society (LETS), a citizens' group which had formed to raise awareness of environmental and land use issues in Lacombe.  He was a very committed volunteer and former chair.
We were employed as substitute teachers during the same time period before Michael made his way into the tech world.  He was also an extremely talented musician.
After working with him here at Parkland Regional Library for ten years it came as no surprise that his talents should be recognized with 2 prizes in 2010 while attending the U of A School of Library and Information Studies program.
My condolences to the Patricia and family.
