It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sinniah Sivapalan, lovingly known as Balan, on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Usithamalar (“Malar”); children, Sudhakar (Debra), Radhika (Gareth); along with his grandchildren Emma Naruvi, and Jaiyan. He is also survived by his brother, Sinniah Sivanesan, and his two sisters, Sivakantharuby Ramakrishnan and Sivakumari Pathmaganth, along with his many dear nieces and nephews and extended family.
Balan is remembered for his infectious humour and his practical and positive outlook on life. He was an active member of the Maha Ganapathy Society of Alberta, volunteering his time and effort to contribute to building of our beloved temple.
Balan and Malar enjoyed 48 years of marriage, and during this time they shared many memories, including establishing a family in Edmonton, raising two children whom he constantly stated how proud he was of them, and having adventures around the world.
Balan was very much in love with the Sri Lankan community in Edmonton, they were his best friends, and shared so many cherished memories, from community hall parties, birthday celebrations, and numerous trips. He would try not to miss any events, and would quickly help out if asked. His generosity was often found in his time that he would willingly give to others. The community made Edmonton his home and let him live his fullest and most enjoyable life possible.
A funeral service will take place at Hainstock’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, located at 9810 – 34 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:00AM.
