Phil will forever live in the hearts of his wife Jeanette LaBarge of Brentwood Bay, B.C., and sister-in-law Marilyn LaBarge of Edmonton. Great-Niece Erin Macbeth has been such a wonderful support to us over the past many months, especially during the time of our sister Joanne’s passing on December 31st, Phil’s time in hospital, and our grieving over the loss of two very loved ones in such a short period of time.
Phil was predeceased by his first wife Sonia, his brother Alan and sister-in-law Fay, and sister-in-law Joanne LaBarge.
Phil was born in Manchester, England, and lived with his parents Harold & Phyllis and younger brother Alan in Sale, close to Manchester, before the family came to Canada when Phil was about fifteen years of age. Phil began his career in Edmonton working with AGT, now known as Telus, mostly in Human Resources until his retirement. Phil and Sonia moved to North Saanich on Vancouver Island shortly afterwards.
Phil & I loved to travel and enjoyed river cruising in Europe, cruising the Hawaiian Islands, cruising from Montreal to Bermuda, visiting New York, Boston and Washington DC, and especially driving down the Oregon coast to stay in Palm Springs with my sisters Marilyn and Joanne for several winter get-away holidays over the years! Phil & I enjoyed a wonderful holiday tour of Italy with Joanne – such precious memories.
Phil will always be remembered for his caring, generous spirit, for being always a gentleman, for his love of trains and fixing of clocks, for his many handyman talents, for his cooking and taking over my kitchen, for his love of our little dog Scruffy, and for always being so very good to me.
Thank you to our neighbours/friends in Port Royale for your caring and support for Phil and myself over these past many months; and to my cousin Pat for our safe trip to Edmonton so that our small family could be together for a few precious weeks; and to friends and relatives here in Edmonton for their loving support (and meals!!) for Marilyn and me during this most difficult time.
As per Phil’s wishes, he will be cremated and placed with his parents and Sonia in Saanich with a private service.
If you wish, memorial donations may be made in Phil’s name to the charity of your choice.
