Norm Williams passed away peacefully in Edmonton at the age of 86. He was born in Birkenhead, England and spent a short time in the Royal Corps of Signals of the British Army. In 1957, after a chance meeting with a member of the Royal Canadian Airforce, Norm fell in love with the pilot's photos of Banff, Alberta and immigrated to Canada within a month of that encounter. He remained in Canada ever since.
Norm worked most of his life in finance with the Bank of Montreal and RBC Dominion Securities and retired in 1998 to pursue his love for travel with his wife Rose, his lifelong travel and adventure partner. For the next 20 plus years they travelled the globe extensively and he was incredibly proud to have visited every continent, except Antarctica. Norm was an enthusiastic golfer and was acknowledged as a Lifetime Member of the Edmonton Country Club after 41 years of membership. He was also an avid reader and spent many hours in his home library, either reading or watching soccer. He was known for his love of chocolate and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.
Norm will be forever remembered by Rose, his wife of 60 years and two months, his children Richard (Tracy), David (Helen), and Patti (Greg), his seven grandchildren, Connor, Douglas, Adam, Erin, Kimberlee, Jasper, and Oscar, and his many friends. Norm was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Amy Williams, and his brother, Grahame Williams, in England.
Norm's family wish to thank the extraordinary caregivers in Unit 3F4 at the University of Alberta Hospital for their care during the last four weeks.
Due to Covid-19, a small private family gathering will be held.
