Our mother loved good company, good food, deep discussions and passionate arguments. She leaves behind a loving family: her son Peter, daughter Anne (Matt), grandchildren Alex, Bronwen and Gabe, sister Jean and so many nieces and nephews. She had close friends who were like relatives…Danielle and Helen… and many other lifelong friends from around the world. She loved literature, music, art, travel and conversation. Her lively mind influenced everyone she met, and she opened her home and heart to all of her friends, and her children’s friends. There was nothing she liked more than an intimate dinner party, a glass of wine and a long argument that she ended (won!) with a scintillating, and inarguable, repartee. Her last year was a struggle with two relentless diseases, Alzheimer’s and COVID. After an extremely brief illness she rallied and spent her final day chatting and sipping coffee with the kindest of all people, nurses (thank you Leduc Hospital) before slipping off instantly, with no pain or fear. True to her brilliant nature and against all odds, she left us exactly as she would have chosen-dinner in front of her, in good company, happy and with her dignity intact. We are all leaking tears and will miss her terribly, but happy inside with our memories and knowing that her final repartee was excellent and exactly on target, as always. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting someone who needs it during these difficult times-whether through a charity or simply by extending a helping hand or listening ear to a friend, neighbor or stranger in her tradition of applying small kindnesses where they are needed most.
