Beloved Kundan Kaur Notay was born on January 15, 1939, in Sakar, Pakistan, to Bhagwant Kaur and Jiwan Singh Hunjan. Jiwan Singh was an engineer in the railway, and Bhagwant Kaur was a homemaker. She was one out of six siblings and grew up in Kartarpur. Kundan did her schooling in Kartarpur, where she was the first woman who completed grade 10 in her town.
Kundan got married at an early age to her late husband Krishan Singh Notay in 1957. She spent her early married life in New Delhi, where she gave birth to four beautiful children, Hardeep, Harminder, Kulbir, and Gurdeep. Kundan stayed home to care for her children, where she built a beautiful family foundation allowing her children to do the same. She was committed to her family and immigrated to Canada in 1988 with her husband to meet her children. Kundan and her family lived in Toronto for three years then moved to Edmonton. Kundan was a gentle and caring person, and she carried these values to her grandchildren. Her life was filled with amazing memories of travelling and trying different types of cuisines. Although Kundan lived a simple life, it was harmonious, and she enjoyed all things that involved family.
Kundan was a very spiritual woman and loved listening to kirtan with her daughters and her daughter-in-law. Most of her later days consisted of doing meditation and praying. She was a dedicated Sikh woman who was proud of her religion; she often told stories of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to her grandchildren, ensuring the legacy of her beliefs. Kundan often displayed how doing Seva and being an active member of the Sikh community was enriching, not only to one's own life but bettering others as well.
Everyone that knew Kundan would only describe her as kind-hearted and considerate. She made sure she supported every person she cared about, especially praying for them on the more challenging days of their lives. Her gentle soul has left an imprint on the heart of every person she has met. Kundan's legacy lives on in the hearts of her loving family and friends. Kundan Notay will be missed but never forgotten.
