With profound sadness the family of Keith Edward Sanftleben announce his sudden passing just before his 61st birthday. To cherish his memory Keith leaves three sons who were the joy of his life. Tuloro, Alex and Owen along with their mother, Julie Dixon, will forever keep him in their hearts.
Keith was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia then moved to Melville, Saskatchewan at age 5 until graduating from Melville Comprehensive High school in 1980. After working in construction for a year he realized that was not his calling and headed to the University of Saskatchewan earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Degree in 1985.
The majority of Keith’s working career and life was spent in Edmonton, Alberta. Beginning at Dow Chemicals in sales, he quickly transitioned from agriculture to the industrial vegetation management industry. Over the 35-year dedication to his work Keith was an asset
for his wealth of knowledge, leadership and dedication to the stewardship and growth of the vegetation industry.
Keith will be lovingly remembered as a father who was devoted and involved in the lives of his three sons. Tuloro, the eldest, with his love of soccer and basketball. Alex, his middle son, who kept him busy with dance parties, hockey, and baseball and the youngest, Owen, whose love for everything ocean and insects allowed Keith to never stop embracing new things through the eyes of his beloved children. An athlete who enjoyed all sports from his youth to adulthood Keith shared this love with both friends and family. Keith also loved to travel, especially with his boys, to warm places and family gatherings. He was a humanitarian who made an impact in Ethiopia working with children in need and helping set up irrigation systems in community gardens. Keith also loved fishing and capturing beautiful photos along the way.
Keith was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Joan Sanftleben. Left to mourn are his sisters Kathy (Warren) Schick, Jane (Mark) Godlien, Laura Sanftleben and Linda Sanftleben. Nieces Kristen (Jeff) Parson and Amanda Schick, great nephews and nieces, Makenzie Spiers, Thatcher, Everett and Vayda Parson. Julie’s parents Cathy and Terry Dixon, her brothers Justin Dixon and Jamie (Lauren) Dixon, nephews Ethan, Nolan, and niece Aubrey.
Keith will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues who had the opportunity to know him and share in his active life.
A service of remembrance will be held at Hainstock’s Funeral Home (9810 34th Ave, Edmonton AB) on August 24, 2023, at 11am.
