Ed was born on December 6, 1927, in Edmonton and was the fourth of five children born to Arthur and Ida Bean. His interest in the glass business peaked while he worked for a glass company in high school as one of his many after school jobs. Always energetic and hardworking, he decided to go into business himself and in 1949 he opened Crystal Glass with a small shop on Whyte Avenue. He loved commerce and the business world. As the company grew and branched out, he always gave credit to his employees for the success.
Ed loved Edmonton and the community and believed strongly in "giving back" and helping those in need, whether through charities or his own initiative. It was very important to him.
Ed is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ingrid; two children, Terry Bean (Janis), Jacquie Knickle (Bob); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by his late wife, Vivian; daughter, Shelley; grandson, Trevor as well as his parents and siblings.
Following a private burial service, a memorial service will be held Friday March 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Ellerslie Road Baptist Church, 10603 Ellerslie Road S.W. Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Crystal Kids Youth Centre 8718-118 Ave N.W. Edmonton T5B 0T1 (www.crystalkids.org)
