Dear Aunt Barb, David, Charlie, Jan & Glenn, 

I have such fond and wonderful memories of Uncle Don.  He was an extraordinary man, and I am thankful for knowing him.  As a kid, I remember him as "mom's older brother from the west" who would come and visit.  Always dressed impecablely well, with a dry sence of humour, and a love of red wine.  Though we had not been face to face in years, it did not feel that way, as he had fully embraced technology and always made the effort to keep in touch by facetime (or email) from his ipad. 
Everytime we spoke, we would exchange updates, and you could hear how extremely proud he was of each and everyone one of you, his grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
Our deepest sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

An amazing amount of memories with Don

T hank you very much for been our support team while we were building  our first house at Boag Lake and lending us you're able son David he was a great help

This created  great bonding moments for all with Grampa uncle Bill and Grama  aunt Jess.

Later in my life thank you for the council when I was diagnosed with colon cancer you're encouraging words advising me that you had same operation and that I would be okay after the operation we're very encouraging.

 You were correct I am okay and it obviously worked for you

Hello Gardners, I am  sad to see the passing of Don. While  I did not share much time with Don growing up, I did have the pleasure of working and playing with his amazing son David. Davids character and contribution to his  community is a testament to the roots of a great family. I hope that as you reflect on the life Don had, you will take my thanks and warm wishes for all he contributed to our family and our friends through our association with David.

Cameo Park Homeowners Association sends sincere condolences for the loss of Don Gardner.

Don and Barbara Gardner were one of the original occupants of Cameo Park.  Don provided leadership over the years in all aspects of   Cameo Park's activities as well as serving in many capacities on the Board of the Homeowners Association. He was one of the biggest boosters of Cameo Park. His friendly and outgoing nature welcomed so many of us who moved into and became a part of Cameo Park.

Don and Barbara moved two years ago to Lifestyles in Riverbend. We were pleased to welcome them back to visit at our summer BBQ's.

We remember Don with great gratitude for his presence among us. Our loving thoughts are sent to his dear wife Barbara.

Charlie, Jan and families. Please accept my sincerest condolences with the passing of your dad. I have many fond memories of Canada Day Parades on Whyte Ave and barbecues with your families afterwards. 
It was always a pleasure to be included in a Gardner family celebration. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To the family: I am sorry to hear about his passing. I want to tell you a story about how he impacted my life. In the early seventies I lived near the UofA and worked in the IBM building for the Labour Relations Board as a lowly clerk . I walked to work  & one very stormy winter morning a car pulled over and the driver asked me if I wanted a ride. Me? Ride with the Deputy Minister! OMG!I accepted. It happened a few more times in inclement weather.  He was a very good conversationalist and learned that I didn't want to be a secretary but rather a nurse. Every time we talked he encouraged me to further my education and go into nursing. Without his (The Deputy Minister!) encouragement I don't think I would have pursued that career. I did though & enjoyed a 30 year career. I tell people this story frequently even though it was over 50 years ago because: I was shocked at that time that a man of his 'station' would not only recognize me but offer me a ride, he didn't talk down to me, and he acknowledged me every time we passed in the hallways. Most of the men (women were all clerks or secretaries in those days) , mostly lawyers, didn't see me unless they needed typing or a cup of coffee.  In contrast, I don't think the Board Chair, whose name I can't remember, ever said one word to me or even nodded at me. Anyway I thought you might like to know the positive influence he had on me and that I admired him for his kindness.  Lindsay Webster McWhirter

My deepest condolences to Barbara and the Gardner family.  Don and Barbara were among the first people I met at St Paul’s. Always welcoming, gracious, kind and thoughtful,  Don accomplished many things and made significant contributions to his community.  He is a wonderful example of a life well lived.  His presence will be sadly missed.  Wishing his family peace in this difficult time. My prayers are with you.

Sorry to hear about your loss of a very special man. I met Don through Bob Sinclair.  We spent time together at the Probus Speakers Club and also at St. Paul's United Church. He was a real smart cookie, as I see him and did so many wonderful things in his life time. He was very well respected and, very with it, as the young would say. It was very good to have known him.

I'm sorry to hear of Don's passing.  I met Don when I first started attending St. Paul's back in 2007.  He was such an affable man -- a twinkle in his eye, a warm and firm handshake, and a gentle but quick sense of humour.  I will miss him.

I am a member of St. Paul's United Church in Edmonton Alberta. My wife and I met Don and Barbara at the church. 

They were very charitable in donating Safeway gift cards to my wife, Gail, to distribute to the Rainbow Refugees who are mostly from Uganda and who our church is supporting. 

Don also donated his vintage Ford Taurus to one of the Rainbow Refugees, which was a great support to that lady.

So, we are grateful in having met Don who was a kind and charitable person.

Our family count Don and Barbara as friends for many years.  While our link was through St. Paul's United Church initially, Don and Barbara supported our family when our son, Danny, was almost killed in a motorcycle-truck crash in Bogota, Colombia, and then a s  Danny slowly recovered. In 2014 our charitable society will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of ownership of the lodge for seniors and persons with a disability that is located one hour west of YEG and Leduc. Thank you Don and your family for supporting our family and those in society who need a little help from their friends.

Ed and I are so very sad to hear of Don’s passing; our dear neighbour and  beloved Pateman family friend.  We will remember him fondly as a fun-loving and witty fellow who loved food, wine (and Scotch), and a visit.  Cameo Park residents were fortunate to have him serve in our community in such committed and caring ways.  Don was a vital man with a zest for life.  He will be sorely missed.
