James “Jim” Robert Dougherty was born on December 1, 1932, in Monongahela, PA, the first child to Clifford Clark Dougherty and Sarah Jessie (McChain) Dougherty. Jim’s family moved to Oklahoma City in 1949 where his father was employed by HJ Heinz Company. Jim attended the University of Oklahoma where he met Edith Ann Crabtree their freshman year. Jim and Edith were married on Dec. 26, 1954, and shortly after both graduated with degrees in zoology. He then was deployed to Germany where Jim served in the United States Army. After serving two years in Germany, Jim and Edith moved to Chicago, Ill where Jim attended Northwestern University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation Jim and Edith moved back to Oklahoma City and he began his dental practice which spanned a period of 45 years. Jim loved practicing dentistry and many of his patients were also very good friends of both Jim and Edith. Jim was a member and officer of the Oklahoma Dental Association, delegate to the American Dental Association, served for many years on the Oklahoma State Dental Board of Examiners and was inducted into the International College of Dentistry.
Jim was a very kind man with extraordinary good looks. He always liked to visit and tell stories of his experiences in life. He had many interests and hobbies throughout his lifetime which included raising and racing homing pigeons, farming and ranching, hunting, fishing, traveling and camping with Edith and teaching all of his children how to water ski at Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees. He was an exceptionally devoted husband and a loving and supportive father and grandfather.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clifford C. and Jessie Dougherty and brother Clifford C. Dougherty II. He is survived by his wife Edith, four sons, Jim, Doug, Paul and John and daughter, Sarah; Sister, Patty McQuigan; Sister-in-law, Anne Dougherty; Daughter-in-laws include Katee, Sara, Kelly and Janet Dougherty; Son-in-law William M. Davis. Grandchilden include Jessica(Dougherty) and husband Steve Guillot, Matt and wife Kate Dougherty, Thomas and wife Lauren Dougherty, Andrea, Joseph, Emily, Ally, Jackson, Avery, Drew and Kate Dougherty, Molly and husband Casey Worth, Samuel Crawford, Hattie Crawford and Jesse Heiland; Great-Grandchildren include Clara and Luke Guillot, James and Caroline Dougherty, Henry and Walter Dougherty and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 325 E 1st St, Edmond, OK at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018.
