Christopher Allen Vaughn, age 63, passed away last weekend at home in Oklahoma City. He was born in 1948 in San Francisco, California to Cdr. Allen Vaughn USN, an Oklahoma native, and Barbara Jane Hillard a native Californian, a fourth generation San Franciscan. They preceded him in death.
Chris was the oldest of three siblings and is survived by Sister Patricia Bernardy of Jemez Springs, NM and Brother Robert Vaughn of Edmond, OK.
He was loved by his best friend, Kelly Baroomand, and was a proud father of five children: Honey Howell, Julie Blair, Roman Vaughn, Heather Smith and Elizabeth Enyart. He was a loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren. Honey Howell mother of Lacey June, age 17, William Edward, age 14, Ethan Christopher, age 1. Julie Blair, wife of Jon Blair, mother of Leigh Ann, age 16, Lindsay Nicole, age 13 and Savannah Grace, age 6. Roman Vaughn father of Kayla Marie, age 16 and Ryleigh Christine, age 11. Heather Smith, wife of Mike Smith, mother of Michael Gabriel, age 12, Shepard Lee age 9 and Melody Grace, age 7.
Chris was gregarious, witty and loved a good joke or a great story. The more complex, ironic, and timely enhanced it, and along with his boisterous nature animated his storytelling.
He had a unique intellect and so excelled at his beloved crossword puzzles that he used ink. Having once been a proofreader at The Oklahoman, he once relished at finding errors in the World Almanac and Book of Facts. He would call you out on the facts. He missed his calling. He should have started www.factcheck.com.
Chris thrived during the various celebrations and holidays surrounded by family and friends. Being a little different, Christmas cuisine was best SW style, hotter the better jalapenos, and a good bowl of guacamole. That boy loved avocados. Living in San Diego, California he climbed the avocado trees growing in our yard for mom, and they would split a batch.
The celebration of Christopher Allen Vaughn’s life will be held at the Clarence E. Page building at Wiley Post Airport 5915 Phillip J. Roads Ave #104 Bethany, OK 73008 at six o’clock in the evening on Saturday September 3, 2011.
