David R Heller

Born November 3, 1948, in Monroe County General Hospital, East Stroudsburg, PA., he was the younger adopted son of Howard W. and LaMoss (Hanna) Heller. A lifelong resident of East Stroudsburg, he lived in the family home for over 60 years.

Dave graduated from the East Stroudsburg Area Jr.-Sr. High School in June of 1966 after which he attended West Chester State Teachers College in West Chester, PA., graduating in June 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He continued his post-graduate studies at the newly named West Chester University gaining a Master of Music in Music Education degree in 1977.

Dave was employed in September 1970 as the Jr. Band director at Pleasant Valley Jr.-Sr. High School in Brodheadsville, PA., and Elementary general music teacher. In 1975 he became Director of Bands at the new Pleasant Valley John C. Mills Middle School and he remained in that position until retirement in 2005 after thirty five years of service.

Dave was predeceased by his parents and his adopted brother, Richard Allen Heller. Dave is survived by many cousins and even many more former Pleasant Valley band students that he always thought of as “his kids.”

Visitation will be held Saturday November 12, 2022 at Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, from 10:00AM – 1:00PM with a burial to follow at Prospect Cemetery.

A church service will take place December 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 55 Smith St, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
