He was a 1966 graduate of Kirkman High School and of the Baptist faith. He retired from Flowers Baking Company with over 42 years of service in Sales and Operations Management. He was a member of the Knights of Phythesias in Harrison. He was the first Sales Vender at Riverbend and remained with them until this year. He considered it, “His Baby”. He loved Life, people but most of all his Family. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thornton and Marie Childers; and brother, Jimmy Thornton.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Betty Thornton; daughters, Carie (Lee) Edwards and Cherre Thornton; grandchildren, Kyler, Case, Haley, Hayden, Reagan and Grant; sister, Elaine (Ricky) Alder; 3 nieces, 3 nephews; mother-in-law, Ruby L. Shapiro; and brother-in-law, Eddie (Teresa) Cantrell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday and 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 1 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Eddie Cantrell officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens West in Tiftonia.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist. 404 South Moore Road.
