Hubertina Nicolina Maria Eurlings McReynolds passed from this world on August 10th, 2023. She was born June 30th, 1944 in the village of Voerendaal, in the southern province of Limburg, in the Netherlands. She was the child and only daughter of four children of Eugene and Johanna Eurlings. She went to elementary school in Voerendaal, MMS school in Heerlen, and studied to be a teacher in Maastricht. On Feb 8th, 1969, during the start of Carnaval, she met George Street McReynolds at a dance. They were married six months later on September 6th, 1969.
After their marriage, Nickie and George moved to New Haven, CT for three years while Mac attended culinary school. After three years they moved to a house on Caine Lane in Chattanooga, TN. Nickie briefly worked at the Brass Register Restaurant before starting her life long career as a teacher. She taught math at All Saints Academy in downtown Chattanooga until it closed in 1985. Nickie then moved to the position of program director at the Northside Neighborhood House in North Chattanooga. After working multiple years and touching many lives while there, she accepted a special education teaching position at Orange Grove Center. Nickie led a classroom for special needs adults for 16 years. She was a fierce and constant advocate for people with special needs. After her long career at Orange Grove Center and receiving her Masters degree, she taught special education for the Dade County School system. Also during these years Nickie worked for GA Pines, where she helped determine where kids with special needs would best fit in mainstream school systems. She retired from teaching full time but continued as a substitute teacher until her death at the age of 79.
Throughout her life Nickie constantly challenged herself to always be learning and teaching. She loved playing tennis, knitting, sewing, and painting. She loved spending her time traveling back to the Netherlands to see family. In America, she enjoyed traveling to visit and spend time with all her grandchildren. She was very proud of all her children and grandchildren and bragged about them to anyone who would listen.
For many years, Mac and Nickie were active members of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Basilica. During this time they both volunteered in many different events in the church. They are currently members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy-Daisy, TN.
