Mary Johnson Spake, 94, of East Ridge, passed away peacefully on Monday February 20, 2023. Born in Rockwood, TN., on August 23, 1928 to the late Wiley and Robbie Goddard. She graduated from Oak Ridge High School. She was a successful real estate broker having worked for many agencies throughout her career. She was active all the way up into her 80’s selling homes. Mary’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, cooking, and playing cards with her friends and family. Mary was a member of Greens Lake Road Church of Christ and was a very active member in her church.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Billy James Spake, and her aforementioned parents.
Left behind to cherish Mary’s memory are her son, Mark Johnson, grandchildren, Mandy (Bill) Long, Andy and Matt Johnson, great-grandchildren, Brady and Jack Long; Lexi Johnson; and Piper Benton, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary’s memory be made to Greens Lake Church of Christ, 1209 Greens Lake Rd, East Ridge, TN 37412.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Country Haven Retirement Center in Ringgold, Ga for the compassionate care given to Mary for the last year.
