BOSTICK, Lyda Jean went to be with her Savior on Nov. 30, 2019. She was born on Feb 16, 1927 near Boaz, AL to the late R. Clyde and Conola Elrod Smith of Sunnyside Farm, a dairy. The oldest of four children, she was an excellent seamstress, she was a delegate for the state of Alabama at the National 4H Congress in Chicago, IL in 1945. Valedictorian of Sardis High, she excelled at academic studies. She earned an Associates with honors at Snead Community College and graduated from Auburn with a degree in textiles.
She married her Auburn sweetheart, Shelley McDonald Bostick, in April 1949. They moved to Chattanooga in 1957.
She and her husband were committed to Brainerd Baptist Church and deeply involved in the children’s ministry.
A dedicated teacher, she taught home economics and science in the Chattanooga city schools. Upon retirement, she served as hostess with Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelley M. Bostick; son, Gene McDonald Bostick; brother, Robert C Smith, Jr.; and sister, Martha Ann Smith. She is survived by her sister, Glenda Sue Smith, and her children: Clyde Bostick, John David Bostick (Katrina Koo), Connie Cox (Casper), and Rebecca Suzanne Bostick. Her grandchildren are Geoffrey and Benjamin Bostick, Joie de Bostock; Lauren Bostick; Cobalt (Hope), Cerulean, and Cyan Cox. Her precious great-grandchildren are Rebekah, Hannah, Olivia, and Sophia Bostick. She had many nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be held at Brainerd Baptist Church on Friday Dec 13 at 11 am with a graveside service following at Hillcrest Cemetery at 2 pm (CT) in Boaz, AL. Visitation will be held on Thursday Dec 12 from 4-7 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home East.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home, Chattanooga Campus or your preferred charity.
