Josephine "Jo" Pearce Woods

Jo grew up in Chattanooga as the oldest of 3 children. She attended Chattanooga High School and McKenzie Business School. She was an active member of the community participating in the Eastern Star, various service clubs, Girl Scouts and church activities. Jo was an active member of Brainerd United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Friendship and McFerrin classes as well as Circle #2. She volunteered for the visitation ministry for many years. Jo had a long career as an Interior Decorator. She worked for Richard Fowler’s Galleries before starting Jo Woods Interiors.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley O. Woods, Jr., her aforementioned parents, her brothers and their spouses, George (Janie and Frankie) Pearce and Paul (Betty and Dot) Pearce, sister in law, Barbara Brown, her nephews, Paul Pearce Jr., Rick Brown and Roger Brown.

Left behind to cherish Jo’s memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Stephen Overall, grandchildren, Michael Scott (Michelle) Overall, and Leslie Brooke Overall (Nick Bratton), great-granddaughters, Wiley Anne Overall and Adalyn Jade Bratton, brother-in-law, Bill Woods, sister-in-law, Pat (John) Dobbins, nieces, Carolyn Altman, Kim Rayburn, Judy Pearce, Patti Mizel and Terry Woods, nephews, Christopher Pearce, Fred Brown, Mark Brown, Wiley Brown, and Mitchell Woods, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Jo’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday November 6, 2023 at 12:00 pm with her son-in-law, Stephen Overall and Tim Bracken officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Wiley.
