John Maxwell Lackey

John was born on September 14, 1946, to Maxwell Lackey and Marjorie Ficken Lackey and grew up in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1964 and served his country in the US Army. He was an active member of Brainerd Baptist Church where he served on numerous committees and lead Bible studies. John was active in church visitation due to fact that he loved to tell the Story of Jesus and do his part on fulfilling The Great Commission. He and his wife moved to Gallatin in 2014, where he continued to lead a Bible study even after he lost his eyesight.

John loved the Lord and his family. He taught himself to play golf when he was a teenager, he enjoyed playing golf, that love has been passed down to his son and grandsons. John attended The University of Tennessee and was a diehard TN Volunteer fan but always pulled for the SEC.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlene; daughter Chris Womack (Mike), son Brian Lackey (Jacqueline); 5 grandchildren, Reece and Preston Lackey, Garrett Burnett, Anna Womack and Ryan Womack; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Lackey (Beth); Aunt Doris Anderson, several nieces and nephews, cousins and his brothers and sisters in Christ.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held Friday, December 27th at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30pm.

Pallbearers will be Reece Lackey, Preston Lackey, Tom Anderson, Shannon Rollings, Scott Sutherland and Eli Sutherland.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ed Ashline, Men’s Bible Study Group: Bill Bratton, Ken Dodd, Boyce Ottinger, Tim Pappu, Roger Ross, Paul Weaver.
