Janet Anderson Taylor, 76, of Chattanooga passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Rhea County Medical Center. Janet graduated from Central High School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Chattanooga.
She was an accomplished artist who studied under Daniel Green in New York and also with John Hammonds. She was a professional Portrait Artist and traveled throughout the region and southeast painting portraits for adults and children. Janet also taught school here in Hamilton County as well as Catoosa and Dade County, GA. While a gifted painter, she also sang in the Chattanooga Opera and was a member of the choir at First Presbyterian Church and First Centenary, where she was a member.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Ruby Morgan Anderson, and her brother-in-law, Edward Russell.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Carole Russell, her niece, Maria (Blake) Sharp, a nephew, Mark Russell (Katie), 3 great-nephews, Porter; Benton; and Dow Sharp, and 1 great-niece, Greer Sharp.
A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Saturday September 7, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Michelle Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s memory to the 1st Centenary United Methodist Church Choir Fund.
