He was a native and lifelong resident of East Ridge and Chattanooga, Tennessee and a member of East Ridge Baptist Church. He lived in the North Georgia community of Rock Springs as a young boy. An avid outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing and shared his love of the outdoors with his children on many family camping trips. He was a retired electrician and lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 175. He was a co-owner of Hammontree Electric Company with his father and brothers for many years. Bud was a 1954 graduate of City High School and a member of the Chattanooga Team of the Southern Golden Gloves Boxing club. During his 65 years of service with the IBEW Local 175, he served as a member of the executive board and was an AFL-CIO Union Counselor and a 1996 Delegate to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 35th Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carole Lynn McDowell Hammontree, daughter Cathleen Louise Hammontree, parents William Abe Hammontree and Helen Margaret Williams Hammontree, and one brother James Norman Hammontree.
He is survived by one son Charles Dorsey Hammontree, Jr. (Carolina), Signal Mountain; three daughters, Cindy Hammontree, Chattanooga; Cara H. Cameron (John H., Jr.), Signal Mountain; and Cheryl H. Traylor (Darell), East Ridge; six adoring grandchildren, Christin Masterson, Sean Goins, Luke Taliaferro, Anna Killeen Cameron, Carole Hammontree; and four great-grandchildren Olivia and Jack. He is also survived by his brother William Allen Hammontree, aunt Peggy Williams Andrews and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with Chaplain George Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 8 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Graveside interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 9 at Lakewood Memory Garden South. Pallbearers are Charles D. Hammontree Jr., Sean Goins, Luke Taliaferro, Bill Hammontree, Will Hammontree, Darell Traylor, and John H. Cameron Jr. Contributions and memorials may be sent to East Ridge Baptist Church.
