Carol Rothe Schenkel was born August 3, 1949, in Miami, Florida, where her father worked for the Miami Herald. Most of her early years were spent in Washington, D.C., returning to Chattanooga for junior and senior high school. She graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1967 as a member of the first class to graduate from the new high school in North Chattanooga. Retiring from TVA in 2013, she enjoyed especially her nearly 100-year old family home in Ferger Place in the Southside. She loved to travel. She especially enjoyed the tv series I Love Lucy, having the ability to laugh at it even before words were spoken.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Sutton Rothe, and her father, Marschal D. Rothe.
Left behind to cherish Carol’s memory are her husband William J. Schenkel; daughter Mary S. Rippeon [Shawn] from Fairplay, Maryland; sister, Janice R. Robbins [Buckley]; sisters-in-law Ann Johnson [Ed] and Katherine Hergett, from Springfield, Illinois; nieces Mandy Bohner [Alex], Hannah Logan; Anthony, John, and Amy Johnson; David and John Hergett.
A Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday January 30, 2020 at 12:00 with Dr. David Harr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior beginning at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
