Mrs. Lewis was born and raised in Chattanooga. She was a member of First Baptist Church and earned her Masters degree from the University of Tennessee. She retired from Chattanooga City Schools after teaching at Lookout Valley, Kirkman, Howard and Northside Jr. and Rossville High School. She was also a member of the Hamilton County Democratic Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Alice Bishop; and sister, Miriam.
Surviving is her daughter, Alice Lewis of Chattanooga.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 1:30 PM on Friday at the church.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016 at First Baptist Church – McEwen Chapel (401 Gateway Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37402) with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, the Arthritis Foundation (1355 Peachtree St NE, 6th Floor, Atlanta, GA 30309) or charity of donor’s choice.
