Mary Ann (Hoeflinger) Heck, age 90, formerly of Plover, Wisconsin passed away on November 21, 2023 in Peoria, Illinois. Mary Ann was born Feb 15, 1933 in Belleville, Illinois to the late Julius and Anita (Mauterer) Hoeflinger. She graduated from Belleville Township High School. After high school she attended Illinois State Normal University graduating in 1955 with a degree in Education. During her time there, she played trombone in the all-girl marching band. She married Ronald Heck on June 9, 1956 in Belleville, IL. He preceded her in death in 2013.
She is also preceded in death by her brother, August Hoeflinger.
She taught as a kindergarten and first grade teacher for several years. During her retirement years she worked at Copps. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer, a member of P.E.O., and a member of Mad Hatters story telling group. Active in several churches over the years she was most recently a member of St Paul United Methodist Church. Mary Ann frequently took part in planning for World Day of Prayer services.
Mary Ann loved to knit, sew, and quilt as a member of the church quilting group. She was known for her homemade donuts and Christmas cookies. She enjoyed traveling around the country with Ronald. For 40 years she hosted the Network trivia team.
Mary Ann is survived by her three children, daughter Susan (Peter) Fourness of Edgerton, WI; son Barry (Jane Huang) Heck of Middleton, WI; daughter Julie (Roy) Fonseca of East Peoria, IL; and grandchildren, Kirby Heck, Emma & Renee Fonseca.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 9 at St Paul United Methodist Church in Stevens Point, WI with Rev Tim O’Brien officiating. Interment at Valhalla Cemetery, in Belleville, IL will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to PEO Foundation International in her memory as part of chapter NB\IL or to St Paul United Methodist Church.
