Marie was born in Bloomington, Ill., on Oct. 30, 1923, to Arthur and Lydia Gaskel Wood Ness Blevins. She married Kenneth Cox on May 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2001.
Marie is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen (Donald) McKenzie; one stepsister, Fern Webster; three daughters, Beverly Crutchfield of Jefferson City, Mo., Phyllis (Randy) Lay of East Peoria, Ill., and Rhonda (Timothy) Landuit of Milan, Ill.; and a son, Ronald (Mary) Cox of Peoria, Ill. She was a most beloved grandma to Terry Conner, Sherry (Bob) Wheeler, Kerri (Brian) Viets, Eric (Rebecca) Lay, Erin (David) Fortune, Timothy (Stacy) Landuit and Jason Landuit; and step-grandchildren, Robert (Alisha) White and Crystal Graceffa. Grandma or Mimi took great delight in her great-grandchildren, who always lit up her face, and there were 16. She also had four great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was a homemaker who loved to make holiday meals for her family or take food to church gatherings. She loved making beautifully detailed counted cross stitch pictures. She and Kenny also enjoyed taking many trips around the United States.
Marie was a longtime member of the East Peoria Free Methodist Church. Now she is at home with her Lord.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, Ill. Pastor Steve Clason will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Graveside funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
