He was born October 30th, 1937 in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois to Loy Virgil Dutton and Eula Audrey Smith Dutton.
Leo is survived by his wife, Reba Randolph Dutton of 56 years, his eldest daughter, Teri Dutton; his sons, Andy (DJ) Dutton and Philip Dutton; his daughter, Julie Dutton; two grandchildren, Jordan Dutton and Chandy Dutton; one great-grandson, Owen Dutton; and two brothers, Dale and Russ Dutton.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Steve.
Leo grew up in Evansville, Indiana. He graduated from Reitz High School after which he was drafted into the service of the United States Army. As a soldier, he was trained and served in the Military Police in Alpha Co 4th battalion 13th regiment. He was stationed in South Korea at Wolmido (월미도) which is an island 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) off the coast of South Korea near Incheon. His trip to Korea as a soldier was via a military troop ship which required about 17 days at sea.
After serving as a soldier, he worked for PPU Railroad and Caterpillar, Inc. During this time he became a Christian at Morton Baptist Church and surrendered his life to Christ.
He got married then attended Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, Michigan graduating in 1975.
Joining Baptist World Mission, he moved to South Korea as a missionary where he was involved in church planting and pastoring serving the Korean people and also attending to the spiritual needs of internationals from many countries as well as US Military personnel in Korea.
He loved gospel bluegrass music, painting, reading, watching NCAA basketball,
motorcycle riding, the Chicago Cubs and wood carving.
Leo's family has arranged a memorial service to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Bayview Baptist Church in Washington, Illinois. His visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also on Saturday at his church.
Burial will follow on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL with full military honors.
