

Alan R. Kilgore, 61, of Chestnut, IL formerly of East Peoria, IL, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was born November 8, 1953 in Peoria, IL to Wallace Rex and Dorothy Dean (Ahart) Kilgore. He married Carol Van Scoy on May 18, 2002 in Spring Bay, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his sons, Daniel Kilgore of Ft. Bragg, NC and Rex (Sarah) Kilgore of Sunnyland, IL; 5 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sharion (Tom) Webster of Terre Haute, IN, Carla Koenig of East Peoria and Karen Fennell of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Kilgore. Alan was a truck driver since age 16 and enjoyed a career spanning 45 years working for Standard Forwarding out of Decatur, IL and Maple Transportation in Bloomington. He was passionate for Civil War reenactment serving with the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (NFP) and he was currently serving as an Assistant Chief for the Chestnut Fire Department. Alan was loved by everyone he met. He was a person whom, upon meeting the first time, you would feel like you had known him your whole life. He was always ready to help a friend in need. Visitation for Alan will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday, July 23rd at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria followed by a 7:00 pm funeral service with 10th Regiment Chaplain Randy Cheatham officiating. Additional visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 am Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, Cadiz, KY followed by an 11:00 am graveside service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cadiz, Ky (between the rivers) Memorials may be made to the Chestnut Fire Department or the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (NFP).
