Steve was born to David and Geneva on August 7th, 1958 in Fremont, MI. He attended Ferris State University where he received his undergraduate degree in land surveying followed by a degree in civil engineering at Michigan Technical University. Following his studies, he worked as an engineer and ministered to college students in Bophutswana (Republic of South Africa) where he met his wife, Joy. It was there they began a shared life in full-time ministry, communicating the love of Christ at the University of Pennsylvania, Michigan State University and in the country of Turkey.
Steve joins his father, mother and sister Fonda in heaven. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joy and children, Joel Van Sloten (Anneke), Mandy Suckoo (Sanjay), Deirdre Eberly (Rob) and his 6 grandkids. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Mary Braginton, Barb DeYoung, Jan Johnson, Kathy O’Neill and Rick Van Sloten.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, April 15, 2024 at University Reformed Church in East Lansing followed by a luncheon. The family will receive relatives and friends starting one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Leek Cemetery in Mason, MI.
