Haslett – Sandra (Sandy) Mae McDonald (81) passed away at her home unexpectedly after a short illness on December 1, 2023. Her family experienced a great loss in her passing as she was a very special person.
Sandy was born in Port Huron Michigan to Orson Hart and Sarah Parrish-Hart on April 10, 1942. Sandy graduated from Port Huron High School in 1960. Sandy was married to Edwin Howard McDonald on September 5, 1964, and they resided in Port Huron Michigan until moving to Haslett, Michigan in 1977, they were married for 56+ years. Sandy had a lifelong career with the Laborers’ International Union of North America, where she started as the Secretary at the local union hall in Port Huron, Michigan and retired as the Secretary for the local District Council in Lansing, Michigan. After retirement, her and Ed spent the winter months in Treasure Island Florida, where she loved to soak up the sun and shop. Sandy was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #269, in Haslett Michigan and served on the Women’s Auxiliary, where she made lifelong friends. Sandy enjoyed crafting of all kinds. She was an expert crocheter and quilter, you are blessed if you are a recipient of one of her pieces of work. Sandy was a very kind woman and believed that if you had nothing good to say, you should say nothing at all, she followed that advice. Sandy loved her family, her children, grand and great grandchildren and there were many to love.
Sandy McDonald is preceded in death by her husband Edwin Howard McDonald (4-10-21).
Sandy McDonald is survived by Daughter Rene’ McDonald Chaffin, Son Scott Howard McDonald (Carmen), Son Matthew Edwin McDonald (Eryn), seven Grandchildren- Samantha, Dillon, Allison, Jordyn, Sophia, Avery and Charlie Mae, eleven Great Grandchildren- Brianna, Jaxton, Liam, Elijah, Parker, Griffin, Jaslynn, Jayda, Jayci-Mae, Jamisyn and Roman, two Sisters, Kay Kendall (Rich deceased) and Marilyn LaVere (Marvin), two Sisters-in-Law Betty Visger (Bob deceased) and Sandy Blais (Rick) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Sandra will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Capt. Stephen W. Frank American Legion Post #269 1485 Haslett Rd. Haslett, Michigan 48840.
