Born, January 17, 1938 in Bangor, Michigan to Gunnar and Helen Petersen, passed away January 18, 2011 at the age of 73. Richard graduated from South Haven High School in 1956 and retired from State Employees Credit Union after 32 years of service in Research and Development. He also worked for American Fire Protection following his retirement from the credit union. Richard was a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing. He loved woodworking. He is survived by Brenda, his wife of 50 years; his children, Cynthia (Richard) Petersen-Harper, Mark Petersen, Deborah (Donald) Dye and Billy Taylor; grandchildren, Matthew Wygant, Andrew Wygant, Kimberly Wygant and Bryan Harper; sisters, Lena Adams, Peggy (James) Fields; brother-in-law, Charles Goodrich; and best friends, George Cushingberry, Matt Miller and Joe Majinska.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour, Lansing, Rev. Bernard Reilly officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service.
