Marie Margaret Lewis (Reda), age 90, passed away on July 12, 2024 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had been transported there after a serious fall in her Mason, MI home where she had resided for the past 59 years.
Marie was born on November 15, 1933 to Gustav Reda and Catherine Margaret Deering Reda. Catherine passed away when Marie was four, and her father later married Mabel, who raised Marie and her siblings. In 1952 she graduated from Millington High School in Millington, Michigan, and married her high school sweetheart, Gordon L. Lewis in 1955. They moved from East Lansing to Mason in 1965, where they raised their two sons, Gordon (Gordie) and Lawrence (Larry). The boys attended the Okemos Schools system.
Marie enjoyed working at a variety of places through the years, but she cherished the years she spent at home raising her boys and later enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. She loved doing a variety of crafts and made beautiful greeting cards and scrapbooks. She also created and sold beautiful beaded jewelry. She and her husband were very involved in the Mid-Michigan Rock and Gem Society and enjoyed rock hunting field trips with the club. In her later years, Marie enjoyed her perennial gardens, her cat, Zelda, and putting difficult jigsaw puzzles together with her best friend and neighbor Lisa Ostler.
Marie is survived by her sons, Gordie (Nancy) Lewis of Leo, Indiana and Larry (Dawn) Lewis of Hartwell, Georgia. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Shawn McDonald, Kara (Dave)Snoke, Collin (Brittany) Lewis, Evan (Amanda) Lewis, Kahla (Gary) Lewis, Aaron Lewis and Makenzie (Josh) Willams. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband, Gordon, five brothers, and one sister.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Marie requested support for the Greater Lansing Food Bank, https:/greaterlansingfoodbank.org/give.
