John was born to Erwin John Hebbeln and Virginia C. Mahlberg. He graduated from West High School in Davenport, Iowa with the class of 1961. He embarked on a career that spanned different paths, starting with Farmall/I.H. in Rock Island, Illinois, where he dedicated his skills until the closure of the plant. He then transitioned to serve as a U.S. Customs Agent in Detroit, Michigan, where he made significant contributions until his retirement.
Beyond his professional endeavors, John found joy in simple pleasures. A devoted baseball fan, he cheered for both the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers, finding excitement in every inning. His love for cars and long drives reflected his adventurous spirit, always eager to explore new roads and destinations. John truly lived life on his own terms, embracing each moment with a fierce independence and an unwavering love for his family. He had a deep appreciation for his family ancestry, spending time tracing his roots and cherishing the connections that shaped his identity.
John is survived by his daughter, Rene (Allen) Heath; son, Craig (Kathy) Hebbeln; grandchildren, Laura (Shaun) Mueller, Rachel (Ben) Keating, and Evi Hebbeln; great-grandchildren, Rowan and Silas Mueller; and sister, Jacqueline (Joseph) Raus. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Eric Hebbeln.
Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to John's heart.
