I didn’t know your mom but from what I gather, she was an incredible woman (very similar to my own mom).  I am sending all my warmest thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time.

In 1984 I got cancer 
Janet sent me this angel and she kept one for her self . We wore them every day.  near the end of my chemotherapy I got very sick I had missed place my angel. AndJanet had lost hers at a block party she paid the neighborhood kids to find it on the street.  It took them 2 days I was in the hospital on the 2nd day my husband found mine 
Janet and I but them on and I started to get better.  It was a miracle .

It was such an honor to have you as a friend and part of my life.  I will miss you but I have such wonderful memories to fill my heart.  My love and prayers go out to Sean and Patrick and their families. 

My favorite memories with Mom were during our trip to Ireland in 2015.  This photo was taken during a boat ride around the base of the Cliffs of Mohr.  It was a pretty rough ride and Mom initially didn't feel up to going outside on the boat, but gradually found her courage and seemed happy she did.

Thank you for the opportunity to say goodbye to Janet.  My heart goes out to you her family as you begin your grief journey. Janet was my second cousin. We reconnected recently. Janet was always kind and willing to share our family geneology. We planned to visit this month.  God Bless you Janet l know you were in the arms of the angels when you went to heaven.  You will be missed!

My  name is Anne Roberts and Janet and I rode together to work at BCBSM; she'd pick me up even after I offered to ride the bus to her home ( we both lived right off of Puritan in Detroit). If it had not been for Janet I would not have made it as a customer service representative; she was the most patient, helpful and most of all wonderful person; R.I.P my friend
 

Janet (like her mother) loved all things family.  

Here we are standing in front of a street sign that commemorates her aunt Mae's street in Buies Creek.  Growing up, she spent a lot of time at her Aunt Mae's house. During this visit to NC, we were visiting with Aunt Mae's son Waymon and his wife Lib.    


Our getting together in NC happened after I thanked Janet for all of the family history stuff for the Byrds that her mother shared with my dad who shared it with me.  Aunt Evelyn had already passed, but her legacy of love of family lived on.  We got to talking, and Janet was downsizing as she prepared to move, so she sent me a large box of her mother's Byrd family records, knowing that her mother would roll over in her grave if these records were not preserved.  A lot of gems in that box, including a book belonging to yet another cousin I had not yet met, but that book was my reason to call up and meet more of my extended family.

There a no words to express the profound impact Janet had on my life. Outside of my family, she was one of the first humans I know I’ve ever met. She came to the hospital the day i was born, she made a sign for my mother and me when we came home from the hospital. There are countless memories of her treating me as her own, through my wedding and marriage, through my journey to parenthood and I will treasure the memories as well as the keepsakes she has given me over the years. I grieve for a mother from a woman who treated me as her daughter. 

Dear Janet,

It was so fun to hear your stories of the McGowan family.  You are truly an Irish angel now!  I know you are happy and at peace with your brother and your Mom and Dad (my Uncle Paul).  We will miss you and will keep you and your family in our prayers.
