Sue was a resident of Haslett, Michigan but always valued the fond memories of growing up in Pewamo, Michigan and graduating from Pewamo - Westphalia High School in 1967. She continued her education at Michigan State University, graduating with Bachelor’s (1972) and Master’s (1975) degrees in Education. Her professional teaching career began with the Owosso Public Schools in 1972, teaching at Emerson School until 1987 followed by Bryant School until her retirement in 2006. She treasured the relationships formed with students, parents and colleagues during her gratifying years of teaching in Owosso.
In retirement, Sue worked at the East Lansing fair-trade store Kirabo, became an avid bridge player, continued her enjoyment of golf and finally had time to indulge her love of reading. The luxury of retirement also allowed her to devote time to deepening valued relationships with family and friends, bringing her profound joy in her final days. During her lifetime, the adventure of travel afforded her great pleasure and treasured memories. Sue’s love of nature and concern for the planet were guiding forces throughout her life.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hilda Thelen; sister Donna Kramer; brothers James Thelen and Anthony Thelen; brothers-in-law David Hanses and Philip Kramer; nephews Philip Kramer and Stephen Field.
