Gary lived a very active and loving life. He was a very genuine man that was well-liked by everyone that he came in contact with. He was the type of man that was always more than willing to help others. Gary was a graduate of Okemos High School class of 1960, and then attended Ferris State University and Lansing Business University where he received a higher accounting degree in business. Gary held the Assistant Auditor General position for the State of Michigan before retiring in 1997 after 32 years of service. After retirement, he worked as a Player Assistant at Eagle Eye/Hawk Hollow Golf Club in East Lansing for 24 years and spent his time helping others.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and easily a friend to all he came across. His life was most fulfilled when it involved his daughter Chris and her family, which included her husband, their three children, and eight grandchildren.
From a young age Gary loved golf. He played regularly with his dear friends, Wally, Skip, Mark, and Tom. For many years, Gary spent the winter months outside skiing in Michigan, New England, and out West. He was a long-time member of the Jug and Mug Ski Club of Lansing. He also loved bowling and played on several leagues. One of his favorite places to visit was Lake Tahoe, where he traveled on numerous occasions with his daughter and son-in law, and many friends.
He is survived by his only daughter, Christine (Kirk) Hammond of Ludington; his granddaughters, April (Michael) Rush of Stanton, Ashlei (Matt) Williams of Newton, MS, and Amber (Kyle) Stanaway of Ludington; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Kayleigh-May, KaDince, Allicyn, Amelia, Xavier, Delaney, and Hayzel; his brother, Roger (Pamela) Link of Harwood, MD; his cousins and many dear friends.
